in Illinois we pay $78 per year. However, the local town where I live switched from an annual $12 vehicle sticker to a 5% monthly tax based on all telecommunications useage (lan-line phone, cell phone). Adds up to about $8-9 a month. Sneaky B&^%&ds

In the US it depends on what state you live in. When I lived in TX it was cheap, cheap (In the two digits), now Georgia is about the same as yours.
