I formed a corporation that holds the titles to all of my autos, truck, plane and boat. The corporation gets a better fleet DMV deal than an off the street shmo, and I get the added benifit of adding one more layer of laibaility protection. The corporation get commercial rates, and allows me a much more accelerated depreciation rate.

In the US it depends on what state you live in. When I lived in TX it was cheap, cheap (In the two digits), now Georgia is about the same as yours.

Mine is due next month, and it will run $331 for my 2005 545i and that includes a personalized plate. 
Of course here in California, we get hit every other year with a smog check (plus any repairs needed) so it can be even more expensive around here too!
Not to mention Arnold Schwarzenegger rolled back our VLF (vehicle license fees) or it would be even MORE outrageous!
