It only took a half hour or so to get use to it. But, to really learn it and all its' shortcuts took a few days.

If you've never used a computer before, then I could see it taking time. Otherwise, it's pretty intuitive. Except the bitch still doesn't understand half the crap I say when I do voice recognition. Maybe it's the NY slang. Ha!

I do not understand the criticism of the I-drive by auto journalists. Part of it is their herd instinct. Part of it must be their IQ levels.

I found it to be intuitive. It took under an hour for iDrive, and a little longer for the navigation function. IMO, iDrive does not deserve the negative press it has received.

iDrive isn't at all complicated - it is, however, slow, buggy and it is reasonably unintuitive. It has improved over the years, but it has a long way to go to match the usability of some other systems. BMW deserves credit as it's a great concept, but it's let down by the appalling execution. Much of the criticism of iDrive was (and remains) entirely justified. FWIW I'm a technology partner in a professional services firm - I'm far from IT illiterate, and have always been an early adopter. Disappointing thing is that iDrive could (and should) be so much better than it is - E60 owners deserve better.

Just curious, other systems such as an iPod or another car?

Beforer buying one, I was reeading press reviews with all of them saying it was rubbish...

I was also dissapointed.... worked it out in 15 minutes.... the toy has been defeated!!!! Its ace and intuitive. Sometimes a little frustrating for the Radio, but overall no problem!
