Does anyone know if the previous models in 530 or 545 versions are 'retrofitable' to become the higher horsepower version of the 530 and likewise the 550?

It maybe is a stupid thought, since it might be cylinder bore sizes, etc. but in case it was not, it might be worth asking about. I was not sure how they were accomplishing the higher HP engines.....

I apolgize if I didn't hear about any prior discussion on this, but maybe someone knows whether anything like this would be possible for previous year models....

The higher HP engine is same/similar bore size, but a completely new engine incorporating Valvtronic - variable valve timing and induction system. For example the E39 540 is a 4.4l with approx 285 hp, the E60 545 is a 4.4l with 325hp.

The 550 (if it happens) is by upgrading to the new 4.8l (bigger bore size)

Valvtronic is also the reason the 3.0l went from 225hp to 250hp

To gain HP from an older engine I think your options are the standard: exhaust, intake, chip, super charging.

Darn,

sounds like not a simple retrofit in any way......

too bad they can't provide it as a package retrofit!
