3L diesel, 265hp, 608 Nm and very light and aerodinamic car... once, and will not force it again on 270 km/h Germany GPS, only once and it is ok for me like that but even above 230 you must be damn carefull otw you may have probs... I think top speed does NOT really matters except when you want to overdose adrenaline

but I know Lx did over 300 with the M5 hey is da polezz reading this?

Somewhere around 105MPH (when I'd look down). I was following a C320. It felt more like 130MPH, but based on the salesguy (and most other owners I've chatted with before), BMW speedos are "optimistic," so it was probably even less than 105MPH. It was neat walking down the C320 and backing off, though. I could tell he was jamming his throttle when I got close to him from the sudden waft of sulfur in the air. I'd just walk him back down without ever shifting out of sixth gear. After swatting him around like a cat does with its prey for a while, I went ahead and let my nuts hang out the window to show my dominance and put him out of his misery.

I'm sure it was well beyond 105 at that point. BTW, does anybody else's car produce little, low-level beeps/squeaks at high speeds? These weren't like warning tones or anything like that. It actually sounded like electronic interference coming through the speakers. There was no set pattern to it.

An interesting comment. I have thought the same thing more than once that my speedometer was showing a faster speed than I was traveling.

It doesnt really bother me, except for wondering whether the odometer is therefore adding more miles than I'm traveling, which on a leased vehicle, is a bit of a concern.

Hmmm..........

The BMW tacho has 2 correction factors programmed into it. The car knows the actual speed really well, but deliberately shows a higher speed between ~1% and ~4%, depending on the actual speed (not linear). You can see this very clearly in the secret menu from your instrument cluster, you can read out "Veff" as well as "Vind". For my car, 124km/h = 120km/h Veff, and 53km/h=50km/h Veff.

Coming back to the question: I live close to the A31 autobahn and often come back from Germany for work late in the evening. For those who don't know the A31: Many people drive top speed there continuously. Late in the evening you can easily drive top speed for half an hour without having to brake at all! This autobahn is used by reporters and by car manufacturers as test track.

If I drive top speed on the A31 (235km/h on the tacho after waiting for a long long time) people still overtake me, Porsches and such. Normally I put the cruise control on 200 on Autobahns like these, but only late in the evenings or on Sundays.

Fastest was 250km/h on the tacho, probably 235km/h for real. I hear you thinking: Impossible with a 520d. But it was in the south of Germany: Downhill...

What is this "secret menu" you speak of?

Hmm... That sounds like an interesting run. Care to elaborate for our law enforcement friends?
