Question How does the adapter/adapter strip work?

Hi,
For those of you who either have OEM mtech or aftermarket mtech bumpers, can someone shed the light on how these 2 parts fit on the bumper?
51117896611 (x2) adaper
51118032081 adapter strip
I found the following picture https://5series.net/forums/attachmen...er-bracket.jpg
But if I do the same, the mtech bumper won't fit. Where would they fit in the bumper and where does the bolt fit?
And for the adapter strip, I have absolutely no idea what's the purpose of the strip.

Thank you

the first part number are metal brackets that bolt to the aluminum bumper reinforcement.
the second part number should be a long plastic strip that you place on the very bottom edge of the bumper cover, the lower engine shield then slides into that strip. you will need to trim the very forward edge of the engine shield to make it short enough to rest on that adapter strip. the adapter strip is held to the bumper cover with small machine screws.

hope that helps.

Thank you for the reply. The metal bracket has 2 bolt openings. If I look at the first picture, one end goes under that aluminum bumper, what does the other end bolt into? From the positioning, it SEEMS it goes to the plastic center air opening for the mtech but it would push on it so wouldn't fit. And I don't see any holes on the bumper to accept any screws from that opening. That's what got me confused.

For the 2nd part number, how do I place it on the bottom edge of the bumper cover? Does it slide into or screwed into the bumper? I have to drill holes on the bumper? Sorry, I don't know how things work well because I just started doing things myself and sometimes even shops don't know.

are you using an aftermarket bumper? sounds like you are, you do not have to drill any holes with OEM.

Yes, I'm using an aftermarket. I didn't drill any holes but I'm not sure where do the adapters go in the bumper. If I can see a picture I may be able to find out whether I need to drill a hole or am I lining them up in the wrong place. My problem is that I'm not sure what does the adapters do. Originally I thought they hold the foam pieces (shock absorbers but after fitting the absorbers I realized that they don't as they sit lower than the foam pieces).

Thanks

PM me your number or email address if you want, I can take pictures of my car with an OEM setup and send them to you tomorrow.

the upper metal adapters allow the bumper cover to attach to the aluminum reinforcement; think of them as extension arms to bridge the new bumper cover and reinforcement together.

the lower plastic strip adapter screws onto the bumper cover and allows a resting surface for the entire front edge of the lower engine splash shield.
