Gearbox holds more than 6L of fluid, much more in fact (some stays in the TC). When you open the drain plug, you'll only get about 5.5 to 6L out. doing another drain and fill replenishes more of the fluid.

Oh ok. Thanks man I ordered the kit yesterday. And I'm gonna drain and fill. The tranny in my 04 530 went bad bc I went with the dealers word saying the tranny fluid never needed changing. But my 550 8s getting the royal treatment
