2008 550i sport package what cable and software?
Ok just got my car it has 70k miles on it and I want to start fixing the oil leaks. I have read and read and read about INAP software and cables. The problem is when you look around there is so many software and cable bundles. K-scan, D-scan, INAP, DME, etc etc.
Im not rich but i dont mind spending a few extra dollars to get the right cable and the right software bundle.
Basically I am mechanically inclined im not afraid to get dirty. I want to reset adaptions when i change the transmission solenoids down the road.
I have lenovo w510 laptop. I need someone to point me to the correct cable and software bundle to buy.
Im not going to argue im going to buy exactly what somebody tells me to buy. from what i gather a good cable and software bundle should run 150-200 bucks i just dont know which one to buy.
Thanks in advance

Since you have a 2008, you need a D+Can capable cable.
Car Diagnostic :: By Product Type :: INPA & Ediabas :: BMW INPA / Ediabas K+DCAN USB Interface - one-stop-electronics.com
Is a bit pricy, but should work with every bmw from 1998 to now.

Wow!! That is too expensive. Do not recommend that to anyone. LOL You find that same cable on ebay for $18-$25 which has the same quality "the same cable". And it works. I know this because I bought 2 a couple years back and I still have them both even through all the rough handling.

half the cables on ebay don't work. They are a crap shoot. Some use the wrong FTDI chip or incorrectly programmed. So yes, you can get lucky and find one that works, but lots don't.
check out amazon reviews. Here is a typical "ebay" cable. Read what users have to say.

I just read the reviews on that cable. People are having a hard time with them. I just looked at my cables 1 has a green board and the other has a white board. Both of them I have used with no issue. First you have to look at the cables and the capabilities of them. These cables are only made for Windows XP and NT. So if you have this cable you must know what you are doing when you install it. No one these days have a laptop that has XP on it. The software you get from the seller you are suppose to through it away. The drivers install automatically on the computer. Once drivers are install you have to configure the USB port that you are going to use. And that is the only one it will work for. Alot of people do not know this and that is why you have bad reviews. Vista and above you must do more than plug and play. I dont read reviews much when it comes to PC peripherals because most people are not IT savvy and do not do the research before they buy. Who knows the cables being sold might be crap but I bought my two at two different times from two different vendors on Ebay which gives me 100% success. I have also recommended the same cables to others with success (had to send the installation instructions).
I do not know if the cable you recommended is plug and play but for $20 I can take the extra steps for it work. The FTDI is more than likely not wrong. I think it would be the configuration is wrong (ie. soldering the wrong pins)
