I have business sat nav dvd version 2001 which is out of date I enquired to have this upgraded by the dealer and they explained I would also need a Cip software update - the cost of all of this was horrific!

Recently taken the car in for service and a fault on the idrive they have now confirmed that they have updated the software to CIP 22.00.00 free of charge!

Anyone know which business dvd version is the most up to date that will work on this software? I am unsure if 2006-2 will work or if i should go with 2006-1 as this seems to be more reliable.

Your dealer told you BS.
No need for CIP updates. The newest nav disc will work.

Are you sure? My car could read a 2005 disc but not the 2006-1 disc. It then went for reprogramming (for other reasons, not the sat nav issue). Dealer claims it received CIP 23 and from then on it can read the 2006-1 disc.

This is all Business Navi and Europe map.

ON a newer disc there is no difference in the software coding itself, only the data is different, so why should it not work?

I switched discs once to the newest available at the time and it worked without any problem.

Because the software may not be able to handle the new data structures.

06-02 has some different data STRUCTURES in addition to the core data.

I have no idea, I'm just relaying my personal experience. Same disc, same car and after the software update it started working. Before, it came up with the "Medium cannot be read" message.

That is likely to be a function of the firmware of the DVD drive (which may or may not be updated during a CIP upgrade).
