I don't think there has so much significant different on the focusing speed between current Nikon and Canon gear.
Especially when Canon using USM Len and Nikon using SWM Lens.

Even you have a D3.....after you put a lens of previous generation on it. You will know what is "slow focusing"
I dont use canon lens so it is slower.
But alot of ppl starting to say it is too slow on the 5Dmk2, even with canon lens

I have own a EOS3,EOS 1 and EOS D60 at the same period of time before...
Even the old old D60, the focusing speed is also fast compare with my EOS3 when using USM lens.
I don't think that the focusing speed of 5Dmk2 will slower that D60.
Also, I have tried my friend's 5Dmk2 with 24-105 F2.8L.....focusing is also very fast.

A BIG NO
dont wast of time
I know AK will put it on and take it off right away
I don't suggest this as well, it takes a lot of effort to put the pulley in, better have a good pulley so you don't need to take it out again.
