Anybody here know what version of HomeLink our E60's have? 1.0 or 2.0? Apparently, my brand-new Chamberlain garage door opener with Security 2+ can't be programmed to open with whatever version my car has.

2007/2008 should be the first version but second version of the board. All you need to do is upgrade the board from a newer model and it solves the issue.

You purchase a home link 3 or 4 version mirror and swap out the chip. I think there's a list of vehicles you can get it from but I'd have to find it. I know they cost around $30 for them. I did one in an 07 E90 before. There also a conversion kit to bring back down to allow old cars to link but then you lose the Security 2+

This is the list I found that would match. They say get the oldest possible because some of the newer mortise changed the design of the module. Some have 3 pins but it doesn't matter. You only need to use 2 pins to make it work

5' F10 (01/2009 -- 10/2016)

Thanks all! What it boils down to is that the newer garage door openers have moved beyond HomeLink 1.0 and I believe the E60's use that version. I'm waiting to hear back from the HomeLink folks to confirm this. As pointed out, you can buy the compatibility bridge repeater device for about $40, but that actually downgrades your security level for the entire setup, so it simply doesn't make sense to do that just to get a button to program. I appreciate @seanjordan20's suggestion to swap out the chip from a later version mirror but I think the cost and the process to do that is simply not worth the effort when I have a perfectly good remote that came with the opener that I can clip to my visor and call it a day.
UPDATE: I heard back from HomeLink and this is what they told me:

Generation 3 and HomeLink 3.0 are the same. We indeed have the HomeLink 5 available, but it is up to the vehicle's manufacturer to determine which HomeLink they put in each vehicle and when. There are vehicles made in 2023 that could be equipped with a HomeLink 4 based on the manufacturer's choice.
Chamberlain changed the security in their openers around 2010-2011, so the HomeLink that existed before that time were no longer compatible. Chamberlain developed the HomeLink Compatibility Bridge Kit in order to correct that issue.
