Can someone please tell me how to get my damn car to catch the signal from my garage door opener, so that the homelink button works as my opener???

Thank you!

I'm sure the manual explains it but it should be fairly simple. You hold buttons 1 and 3 (just not the middle one) down for 20-30 seconds. Once the red light flash rapidly it's ready for you to select and program one of the desired buttons. Take your opener and hold it a few inches away (I think the manual says 4 inches or more.. but people report it needs to be closer) and then press your opener and the button you want to program at the same time .. and hold it. Once the light flashes rapidly again you should be programmed. Unfortunately the thing won't pickup the signal to open the gate to my condo complex.

You probably have a rolling code openner so there is two steps...

Do everything crypto just said, but don't stop there!

You'll need a second person to help you for part 2: After you've done the above. Press the button on the back of the garage door drive unit itself and hold it pressed WHILE pressing the just learned homelink button in the car 3 times in a row. The garage door openner light will blink off and all will work.

I had a tough time programming it. However, after numerous fails, it worked out for both the garage and the community gate. Our other non-bmws worked liked a charm after 1 try.

I definitely held the opener right next to the buttons when programming. GL

My garage doors have rolling codes and I did them alone following whatever was in the manual. You don't have to press both at the same time and have something like 20-30 seconds to press the button in the car.

+1 I only have to push and release the "learn" button on my garage door opener and then push the Homelink button in the car 3 times within the 20-30 seconds

I followed all the instructions, but one thing that I had to do was actually start the car - the garage door will open/close only when my engine was on.
You may want to try starting your engine and following the steps. It wouldn't hurt to try...

Just did it and worked beautifully

Just press and hold 1 & 3 until it flashes
Put ur remote right next to the mirror and press whatever key that opens your door while pressing and holding the button (1,2,3) u prefer on mirror
keep holding it till it flashes rapidly.

I had my car on through out the process
