My Ride: 2011 F10 535i -Brilliant Graphite/Oyster 2006 E5004matic- I must have been on drugs when I got this car 2004 545i Black Sapphire/Truffle Brown interior

Have noticed that homelink on my E60 only works with key in the ignition
in on position.

Homelink on all previous cars worked without the need of the key. If I was working outside and wanted into my garage I would just open the door of my car and push the button, much like the remotes I had b4 homelink was invented.

I realize that BMW's configuration might be safer to prevent someone from gaining unauthorized entry to garage but who wants to carry their keys with them all the time.

My '02 330i worked the same way, Homelink only worked when ignition key 'on'. I've been curious about that choice by the engineers.

It is obviously a security issue. Someone could easily gain entry to your home by breaking a window in your car if it were outside... I suppose.

The car is in the garage already. It never stays outside unless I'm washing it!
