Based on what we have all read in the BMW documentation, this shouldn't work - it smacks of snake oil. And after reading this post with all your experiences with it, I figured that there was some sort of mass-hysteria going on here ... soon to be featured on Oprah.
And since we are fortunate enough to have a lot of active and very knowledgeable participants here over the years, there is no way such a neat trick would go undetected. If one of the reputable veterans had announced this ... maybe we would buy it. But not from some young whipper-snapper newbie (who now seems to be banned from the Forum).
But then I tried it (yes, I was sober). Damn if it doesn't work.
Color me convinced. I'm a monkey's uncle. This is a horse of a different color. I'm gob-smacked. Whatever ... it works.
Why?

Thanks for great advice!
I already booked time to dealer to get a newer software, because downshift from 2to1 has been a bit too slow and couple times gearbox logic has been almost sleeping for a while (maybe 1-2 second). Also my wife has been complying about too "sharp" shifts.
But then I find this topic, I did the reset trick and 10km test drive. Now gearbox shifts as it should be. GREAT!

I missed this thread first time round, just tried it and it certainly makes a difference. Went for a quick drive which ended up lasting 45 mins
I'll be interested to see how it effects the economy but it changes smoother and seems to have more power on tap. Still keen to get DMS remap done but this should keep me happy for a month or 2

It appears that my tranny is locked onto the engine in someway that as soon as I let go of the brake and step on the accelerator, it jerks me back . . . and if I hold steady or press down more, it just GOES . . .
. . . and shift smoothly with more power on the tap.
The situation is . . . it's hard to get a smooth start at times and my wife blames it on my lead foot. Is this a fix for someone like me? In other words, my tranny appears overly responsive from a stop (most of the time) but not lagging from a roll.

Drove the car to work this am and it seems to have had a positive effect on the feel of the car but also the economy.
There are far too many variables to make this a scientific test but the traffic seemed 'normal', I left at the same time, same route and the journey took the same amount of time and I was trying to drive in keeping with my normal style. I normally average 35.3 on my drive to work and today it was 39.7 mpg. Not conclusive but I'm going to see how this goes over time. I'm certainly happy with near 40mpg on a commute to work on a Monday morning around the M25
Just to note for any others out there, I did not hear any noise after a few seconds - only the CD player 'clunking'.
