Nick,
The OP didn't know how to behave with his fellow e60.net members. He rubbed a lot of people the wrong way and was finally banned. He's infamous, having been banned from all the BMW forums yet he keeps returning under new aliases. The new aliases can't help hide his writing style because he'll eventually be found out. I have a suspicion that he's back here again. Let's see how things play out...

If he is back again, it has to be killing him not to post in this thread...

Just got my car back from the dealer. They tell me the tranny is working exactly how it should be,I told the SA how I "reset" it and he smiled and said that the mechanic was aware of this trick because it essentially resets the sensors, When asked how I knew about this ,I smiled and asked him if he had ever heard about the E60 Forums..... he sort of looked nervous and said "Oh Ya I've heard about you guys !!"

I cracked up, this forum is a very powerful tool .........

Cheers, Power to the E60 Forums !!

So guys,

my car was at the dealer this week and one of the complaints i had was the transmission. my service agent told me that they will reset the tranny, i said that I did that with the 25s trick but he looked completely confused. the 25s trick did help, removed the slam on teh tranny but the shifts were a bit random (ie, the car would constantly rev high when accelerating). well i was suspicious, but after getting the car back, i was really surprised, how well the gearbox stayed in the gears.

so my 2 cents, yes the 25s trick works but if people still have a problems, resetting the system at a dealer seems to also work...

Well chock another one up to the E60 forum! I tried the fix on my 2005 545i and it worked beautifully. The car pulls away instantly from a stop and feels smoother through all of the gears too. Its hard to believe that such a simple fix was just laying around within the transmission of the car. BTW the dealer couldn't fix this with all of their "Software Updates", I will be interested to hear what they have to say when I tell them we "Laymen" have a fix they know nothing about......Good Stuff!!

Yep, holy cow! I just bought this car, and thought "oh well, it's not happy under 20mph, and neither am I"

I did the reset just now (late 2004 545i), and it's a night and day difference. Totally smooth takeoffs and deceleration. In DS mode, it's much quicker off the line. I just HAD to take a run up and down Skyline Blvd here in the Oakland Hills.

Damn I love this car already. But I guess you all knew that already...

Thanks,

Brilliant post, 12000miles since my 535d was run in and I guess the gear box programmed the running in period. Just tried resetting it and taken it out for a blast. Now I won't miss a manual box, in DS it's great and in manual mode the changes are really smooth compared to previously.

I think I'll just take it out for another spin

Most of you have problems with your tranny being sluggish due to the fact that you broke-in the car according to the instruction manual.

I don't have any tranny issue because I drive it aggressively from the beginning. It still drives and accelerate aggressively, sometimes more aggressive than I want, but that's OK.

What about SMG cars ?
Does it work ?
I think not .. On the SMG smoother upshift would mean a slower upshift, in my opinion .

I tried it last night and am sure that it has made a difference.

It seems to change more crisply and quicker than before but also holds top when accelerating gently on a level road.
