RaveD, The transmission reset may actaully be a throttle response related reset that affects transmission operation. There is info. at other web sites suggesting that this throttle hold down reset operation has been around for several BMW generations. Do a search and decide for yourself what is going on.
I tried the reset this mornig and it realy gave results. Much smoother gearing and it uses the power more right.
Its really an big improvement. I hope it lasts

That's the question ... does the improvement survive turning off the car?

I guess I will try it myself. In sport mode, my car does not seem to downshift properly after rapid acceleration.

Yes, I think it lasts, at least until you start driving it hard/sporty, then it re-adjusts to that driving style. The odd thing is that if you start driving normal/geezer-style again, it never reverts and acts somewhat twitchy again. So, you will need to do the reset periodically.

Only just got my 535d but felt the gearbox was very slow to react when sitting at junction then giving it throttle to move off, it took 2 or 3 second to do anything. I did the reset thingy tonight and must say a big improvement

Hmmmm, Still a delay at a junction but certainly changed how it goes up and down the box, much sharper and quicker now

Works great. It fixed the hesitation i had in D. From stop to go.
Good stuff.

I have a 2004 545i with an issue that seems to be transmission related, and I can't fix.

When the car is in drive and heading down the road at a steady speed, especially in the 55-60 kph range, the car experiences a rhythmic hesitation - about every 3-4 seconds, it almost feels as if somebody is tapping the brakes. It's very evident. It never occurs over 80 kph. On the highway, the car is a dream. But back in the city, the symptom returns. It's been happening for about 4 months.

I was thinking a coil was faulty, but at the shop, no codes related to that. And, of course, no codes related to the transmission either... has anybody else experienced this? Any thought as to whether this 25s trick will have an effect? I don't want to try anything that might make things worse...

I had the same problem. It happened at around 80~90 km/h in steptronic mode. Get the software updated and the problem is fixed.

I'm sure that's more to do with the car being a diesel and the turbo lag.

The car is very slow when trying to take off and then suddenly slams you into your seat as it accelerates off.

That's when the turbo has got up to speed and is giving you the power it has.

That's great advice. You're the first person I've heard of with a similar problem.

I'm booked in at the dealership for their assessment.

I go to an independent who's very knowledgeable and thorough. He only services BMWs, and has all the current software and diagnostic equipment, but didn't want to upgrade software at random, thinking it may cause some other problems.

I also am experiencing intermittent issues with my iDrive, and I think he was nervous about blowing up the CCC if he did a software upgrade...
