sometimes head gaskets can be a freak thing. although it usually takes a car overheating badly. when a car like a bmw overheats for a prolonged period of time, the aluminum head will actually warp. result is the head needs to be milled, and you have to replace the gasket.

since your did not overheat, it is hard to say. Unfortunately you will not likely get this problem diagnosed over the internet. check your coolant level however, and of course try to determine what type of smoke it is by pulling the "curious dog" on your car.

i know im about to take it to a shop tomorrow to run a diagnosed on the car. and prey it not the head gasket. well its smell kind of funny not like oil. i just when out side and smelled the exhaust

kind of sweet maybe? i have a feeling it is coolant. It may not be a head gasket, maybe someone else will chime in with another possibility. dont know how thse cars are set up, does coolant run around the throttle body??? anyone?

Hi there,

If it is white smoke, is the smoke quick to evaporate or does it linger......if the smoke sticks around, it might be a head gasket issue.....I have had something similar to your experience happen in my previous car (volvo)

can also be the PCV valve. i took my old bosses' E60 in for this, albeit a 545, not a 530. it was smoking like mad and making a nasty noise to boot. not terribly expensive to fix out of warranty.

grade of oil would not cause this. it could be a couple of things, usually a SEVERE overheating is the primary suspect. sometimes head gaskets just fail they are made out of cork, so they arent the most awesomely engineered products ever. it usally takes much more the 62K miles though
