are you saying i dont need to spend big money on the 530i to make power?
No, it costs big money either way, because the engines are pretty much tapped out in stock form. The reason I posted that comment was becuase I have seen a couple posts on here where someone logs on and says "Hi, I just bought a 545 and I can't wait to max the power! what can I do with $1500 to get 100 more HP?!?" I didn't want that to be you in 3 weeks.

My general observations are that (1) in general, there are not too many aftermarket parts for the E60 in (compared to the E46 3-series, for example), (2) there are a LITTLE more parts available for the 530 engine because it is the same as the 330 than there are for the 545 V8, and (3) the only good way to get a lot more power out of either car is to put $10k into a supercharger and then hope your engine doesn't grenade on the interstate one day.

Good luck!

Besides the I6 vs V8 debate, the 545i comes with larger brakes, and many features that are standard on the 545i are options on the 530i. So, be sure that you are comparing apples to apples when you compare the a 530i with a 545i. I found that downloading the "sales brochure" from the Information Section very useful in my search of an '05 530i with specific options. I ended up buying an '05 545i because it included the options I wanted - the extra power and larger brakes just made the deal a bit sweeter.

Good luck on your search,
Randy...

I was going through the same dilemma....I got the 545i and let me tell you all I can say is WOW!!! Its def is a matter of personal preference but you will not be disappointed if you go for the V8. Gas milage between the two really is not that big of a difference either
