This morning when I started my car an "SOS" with a line struck through it warning light came on in th dash. Then I noticed the IDrive was not responding. Has anyone experienced this failure before?

Apparently, somehow the issue corrected itself. This morning, I restarted the car several time in an attempt to reboot the system and the time and date still appeared blank on my iDrive screen. I had to go to work, so I drove the car this way. The car drove okay, but it didn't feel as smooth as usual. 3 hours later, everything worked fine and the SOS error did not appear. I'm going to call my service manager to see if he has any idea why this happened.

I would definitely have the dealer check for stored faults.

The fact you lost the date and time could be related to a battery discharge ?
Did you perform a "control check" procedure using the idrive which is now working back normally ?
Check iDrive / CCC / Battery by your dealer anyway.

Very strange, I had the SAME exact thing happen to me this weekend. I came to E60 Net tonight to do some research. Mine resolved itself within 30 minutes and 2 re-starts but seemed to drive fine. Please post any updates to this as I will do the same. I just took delivery the day before T-giving and have driven less than 1,000 miles so far, but I purchased/leased used and am at 16k miles now. I have a 2008 535xi....Just for info.

i had an I-drive failure about a week ago.. around 11pm ... went to 7-11... turned off the car... 5 minutes later started the car and the screen was blank and the cd player& radio werent working... i was a little upset considering i have only had this car for about a month.. (purchased 11-10-07) CPO 40k with 36k miles.. so i kept turning off and on the car for about 10 minutes but it wouldnt fix itself...
the next morning everything came back on as if nothing happened.. so im glad i saved myself a trip to the dealer

I had the SAME exact thing happen to me recently. I came to E60 Net shortly afterwards to do some research.

Mine resolved itself within 30 minutes and 2 re-starts (car ignition restarts) and seemed to drive fine. I notified my SA and he has never heard of this issue and agreed to "look into it", still have not heard from him after more than a week.

Please post any updates to this as I will do the same. I just took delivery the day before T-giving and have driven less than 2,000 miles so far, but I purchased/leased used and am at 17k miles now. I have a 2008 535xi....Just for info.

Thanks!
