Headlight operation question

My Ride: Metallic gray '05 545i Sport Black Leather with HUD, Step, Nav, PDC, CWP, K&N Air Filter, Black RPI scoop, Black painted calipers, 35% F1 Pinnacle tint, 19" RDSport RS-2F rims with Continental ExtremeContact DWs.

I recently noticed that I cannot get the two center lights to come on. high and low beams are HIDS, SO WH the center lights be on, thanks.EN should

You write the high and low are HID's - if this was an after market install (and not Xenon or Halogen original equipment) maybe the ballasts are shot.

If you have Xenon the outer Xenon lamp High Beams are actually a shutter that alters the beam - the center lamps are used for DRL if that feature is activated by the dealer (late '07's could use iDrive to turn on DRLs). Also, the center lamps are activated when you use flash-to-pass w/o your headlights turned on.

I wonder if the car can be coded to use the halogens and the xenon's when I select high beam? Seems like one might as well make use of all the light up front.

I agree, having all four lights on would be much brighter. I confirmer last night that those center lights do in fact come on when I flash for passing. otherwise they are never ever on. Seems like a waste to me, who flashes when passing in Cali.
