FWIW, I was in a parking lot in the winter just after a good snow fall. It was peak holiday shopping season and the lot was FULL. Well almost. Some inconsiderate @$$ in a Lexus decided to double park next to a pile of snow. Well... lucky for me I was in my Rover and there was just enough room for me to park on pile of snow.
No, I didn't touch his/her car but they must have burst a blood vessle when they came out and noticed there was a Rover at a 35 degree angle with the roof rack over their LS430.

Re: the parking debate - in the UK the e60 is a WIDE car and in most spaces you only get a couple of inches gap between your doors and the white lines.
People are incredibly stupid when it comes to opening their doors next to parked cars - so for the first time I find myself parking really defensively.
I already have a couple of minor scratches where some moron slammed their door against the car
I find the main culprits are young teenagers or people with parents with young kids in scruffy cars.
As a result I always avoid parking next to people carriers (mpv's) of ANY description.

Always avoid 4x4s / people carriers / 2 door cars, as their big doors swing out wider.
I'm pretty paranoid about it, but a few seconds parking selectively saves a lot of hassle removing dings or paint from my car!.
