Ok at 1000rpm the 535 pulls better but we don't race like that do we?
If it was all about torque then a lorry/bus would be the fastest vehicles on the road.

Aaah u dissapoint me by thinking like that!

1st of all yeah we do "race" like this! 25% of us never ever make abuse of the car, 65% i bet "race" like that (meaning everytime they get an opportunity they floor it, if it's a stand still race or traffic race or smth and most of us i BET that keep that car almost all the time under the first half of the rpm gauge) SO yes torque is important.10% often take the car to the racetrack or really race the car in the citys or highways like a lunatic...so in that case yeah, then engine has to suffer from so much stress.

2nd please do not compare a bus or a truck or a tractor or whatever because those are simply other machines that serve other purposes (carry heavy weight stuff like that). It's in their construction to move at quite low speeds because they are heavy, lack in aerodinamics and so on....THEY SIMPLY ARE DIFFERENT MACHINES. the 535d and the 545i are similar in weight (maybe the petrol is heavyer); the petrol has 60 more bhp but also has less torque 110NM to be more precise. the advantage of the extra hp makes out on high speeds, but the disadvantage of the less torque makes out at lower speeds till say 100-120km/h, where the torque is really needed to push the car and give it that ummmph. In fact most of the G force the driver experiences during acceleration in exactly that torque i'm talking about (see american muscle cars).
So in the end the performance is quite similar since i didn't buy my car to drive only at full speads or to take it on the track to get better track times...in the end for what m i paying an extra 4000E? Well for the noise the V8 makes (wich is super i must addmit) and to have a 545i badge on the trunk, ohhh and by the way to have less mileage, to have smth to pay for extra costs (insureance, service costs and so on...).And not to mention that chipping both of them in the 545 you could get about 30 hp more but chpping the diesel you could get even 70 hp more, and a toruqe really of a truck around 700 NM!!! wow that's what i call a business... The M5 is a different storry because it gives u so much more in return so paying alot for it it makes up IMO.

To let us believe your are a faster shifter than anyone, I would ask; why I didn't see you winning from Schumi then.

Ok, NOW...
TELL ME WHERE EXACTLY DID I SAID I AM FASTER THAN ANYONE?
And that's the reason why I am not a pro driver, since there are many others out there that are faster.

Torque = Power
HP/PS = Speed

The power doesn't really help you!
Try it out yourself. Be at the Ring in September with us and find it out yourself.

In other words, you will never say you made the wrong choice by buing a 545i or 535d.

You know what? Actually I thought about buying a diesel, but with not driving more than 10K Km's a year, and the tax penalty on diesel engines... It is more expensive for me, than driving my 545i and fill it up with 100 octane gas all the time, what I do.

There is no such wrong or right decission!

If you are looking for wrong or right, you have to look at smaller engines, such as the 520! A V8 petrol, or a 3.5L diesel is automatically wrong! And everybody looking for pure speed... Well, another false decission if he bought the 545, since there are faster cars for the same price out there.

Please give me a break, you freakin' marketing guru.

When exactly in September? And who we?
BTW that's exactly what i am saying!!!!!! How many of us get to have a lap at the ring?!?!?! And if, how often? once a year? twice? Ok u might say there are guys that go weekly or smth like that but those guys are exceptions.
I use 99.9999999% my car on normal roads with traffic where torque (power) IS IMPORTANT! mainly because i need to pull away when i want some fun...

IAA.
There is a thread in the meet & greet forum.

And again: NO! Your good damn torque doesn't help you a bit. You are not pulling away faster! I have tried it myself.

A standard 535D is just as quick in the real world as a 545i

I cant remember when I was last at a set of traffic lights and just happened to be at the front with a 545 at the front next to me

I also dont see why a remap 535D is not a fair comparisson to a standard 545i - it is still a chunk cheaper, but would really whip its butt

Anyway, lets talk about fuel comsumption and residuals

Yeh yeh sure it is.

545i
5.6 sec 0-60
13.2 sec 0-100

535d
6.6 sec 0-60
16.2 sec 0-100

530d
7.3 sec 0-60
19.6 sec 0-100

It would seem the performance difference between the 545 and the 535d is the same as the 535d and 530d!
Why would you buy a 535d when in the real world the 530d is just as fast!
Extra costs and less fuel consumption and higher insurance?
Touche 535d drivers.
