Has anyone changed final drive on manual 545 or 550?

possibly... funny thing is, when i was in the mustang world, that was one of the first mods you would do.

Perhaps BMW gets it right on the drawing board and at the factory, so no change is neccessary or of value. After all you are paying a significant premium for this car and they really shouldn't leave much room for aftermarket performance improvements.

I think it was a cost issue.
After all, 1996 and older models have a LSD and so do all M models.

By manual i mean stick shift. Not SMG.
I'm pretty sure they have fifferent setups.

umm what do you mean by different setups?
MT and SMG use same transmission except smg has a module that controls the clutch.
They both share same parts including gearing and rear differential.
