I had a headlamp replaced and the existing one has a protective film on it... I am going to remove it as it is pretty beat up... can I use Goo Gone (or Goof Off or whatever its called) to remove any residue on the headlamp cover or maybe nail polish remover??? Or will this damage the cover?

Goo Gone should be OK but I would try a very small corner first to make sure that the plastic lens doesn't discolour. I have used Goo Gone with great success but it can make some types of plastic cloudy. Rinse completely.

I highly recommend against it. Goo Off is highly abrasive and will very quickly and easily mess up your headlights.

I wouldn't use Acetone. It'll fuck it up. I tried it on my side markers and it burn/melt the plastic.

It looks cloudy. But I didn't care because I was spray tinting it anyways.

WOOHOO! Thanks for all the replies... I have to say I am very happy that it came off in one piece without any residue at all... I am pretty sure the clear mask on my front bumper and head lamps was put on around '04-05 by the looks of it... it was pretty beat up. My headlamp looks good as new again just by removing it. I am thinking of having my car professionally detailed with paint correction (its black and shows everything) etc, and may have the existing clear mask removed... do you guys think its worth it to have a new one installed? Thinking of tinting as well...

Depends on whether or not it'll bother you if you start getting dings and nicks on it of course.
