Decided to get a set of winter wheels and tyres as I spend a fair amount of time in our mountain regions during winter and my 245/40/18's are hopeless in those conditions and also don't take snow chains.
Thought I might get some after-market wheels as the BMW 138 wheels are nearly $500 AUD each. First though I rang the spare parts department of my dealer. Yep, nearly $500 each, but then he said, "I'm sure I can find you something, let me call you back". Ten minutes later he rings me back, offers me a set of 138's for $800 for four and throws in a set of new centre caps for $20. Says he will have them the next day. They had come off a BMW exec car, looked almost brand new, not a mark on them and still had a set of Dunlop runflats on them with tons of life left which I can keep for spares. Not only that but they delivered them to me without extra charge. Fantastic
My guess is that these guys don't get commission so they are happy to help you get a good deal if it's possible. So before going after market, try your BMW spare parts dept.

The good news is you have the wheels; the bad news is they have Thumpflats on them.
I use 17 wheels (designed to fit over my sport brake calipers--and that ain't easy to find), but 17" snows are much cheaper, and are available in a wider variety of choice.
Good luck,
Ray Hull
