I just found out that you can lock the door and arm the alarm while the door still open. After you close the door, you'll hear the chirp which tells you that the alarm is armed. This did not happen in my previous cars. When I hit lock button on my remote control, a long beep sounds until I close the door, and hit the lock button again to lock and arm the alarm.

This feature is very useful for me because while having the rear door open and before taking my son's car seat out, I just hit the lock button and put the key in my pocket, take the seat out, and close the door and the car will chirp to tell me that it's armed, so I don't have to worry about the key issue.

I hope it would help some of you who have little infant.

That's an interesting find. Will try if this works on Germany spec E60's too...

Not on mine - only works this way for the trunk but is very handy for that. For the passenger doors, alarm chirps right away but bypasses any security features that are affected (this from the owners manual). I am not sure about the motion sensor - I have never set it off but never really tried to either.

Just make sure you don't set your keys down next to your son and close the door. That's how keys get locked inside!

I agree, though... it's a great feature. I take much longer to get out of the car than my husband does. When he drives, I can open my door, dink around as much as I want, while he's already out of the car with the car waiting to lock itself. When I'm done, I close the door, and it's locked.

i've noticed that when i first picked up my car. not only the doors, the trunk as well. it's a nice feature but i agree with suebmw. sometimes i have to unload something from the trunk and leave the key inside there. good thing is i'm not that old to forget about my key . otherwise this feature will be a disaster for me .

Didn't you get 3 keys? 2 of the big ones and one valet?

yes, but don't you know keys are same as cops, when you need them, you'll never find them . oops, no offense for police officers .
