So I spend about 2 hours at the local self wash making my car look great, I pull it out of the bay, and what do I see, a HUUUUGE scratch along the side skirt on the passenger side...must have been hidden by the salt and the snow, no idea how it got there....and ideas on how to fix? i don't think this can buff out, it looks really bad. What do I do?!?!?!

Try scratch remover first of all, failing that consult a smart repair guy. These guys can work miracles, if the guy is any good you wont even know it was there.

I had just finished detailing my car (about 30hours spent) then took it for the dealer to fit the boot spoiler. Gave STRICT instructions not to wash the car and even left them a note. Well its obvious they can't read cause the car was all washed and parked outside the service bay area with a compliment scratch on the front passenger door (about 3cms long). Its white on a black paint car so I know this won't polish out.

cheers

Might want to post a pic in the Detailing forums and let one of the experts suggest a solution. GL.
