So every 3-5 days my flat tire monitor goes off and it is making me crazy. I've had it into my tire shop a few times now and they aren't able to find anything. I'm just getting the basic response that tire pressure fluctuates a lot with the change of seasons and weather and that the FTM isn't that great of a monitor since it just monitors drag and not the individual tire. I can accept that to a point I suppose but every 3-5 days just seems a bit much. I am planning to get new tires in the not too distant future anyway but I wanted to see what everyone's experience here was. I seriously doubt this as common as they are making out. Am I crazy or is this just too much? Also, in view that I am getting new tires soon, what is everyone's favorite tire here? I had some good luck with Nitto's and Toyo's on my last car but my wheel and tire setup was quite different than on my E60. Thanks for all of your input in advance.

had the same problem, everyday it was going off.my problem was my rear rim was cracked and it was losing air slowly.have your tire shop check the rims and put bead sealer on the rim..the temp does play a roll on tire pressure going up and down..good luck....

I had the same problem with my first E60 (2004).
It was a DSC control unit that was faulty...the dealer replaced the unit and reprogrammed.

I had this problem on my previous car that sensed tire pressure the same way..

A wheel speed sensor was failing.

Not to thread jack or anything, but I'm getting ready to replace my tires/wheels via tire rack and it did not prompt me to buy any additional valve stems for the pre-mounted package. Where is the wheel speed sensor that feeds info to the tire pressure monitoring system; inside the rim or outside?

Depends on the year of your car if it uses wheel speed sensors or TPMS.

?

Its an 04 (MY05) 545i. There is a FTM icon in the dash but the valve stems are the generic rubber kind so wheel speed sensor?

Don't know where they are on the bimmer, but on my last car, it was part of the hub assembly.

And yes, wheel speed sensor. TPMS wasn't until 2006 (I think - maybe 2007? Someone will chime in).
