If the alert was speed related, that would solve the problem for many people. If you're just shuffling cars in and out of the garage, moving a car outside for a wash, etc. there is no reason for such an alert. But we live in a nanny state and we're too stupid to care for ourselves.

I didn't mean to offend or break any rules of this forum by starting this thread. I always wear my seat belt when traveling long distances (15-30 minutes) because to get around here it's mainly freeways.

I just wanted the noise to go away when I want to run to the gas station or grocery store which is right down the road. I guess I'll go with the buying an extra piece from the junk yard. Thanks for the suggestion.

So only travelling 15 mins ensures you will not have a collision?

And somebody else doesn't like the noise if driving whilst talking on the phone?

I'm afraid, some people are an accident waiting to happen.

It is not cool like the 80's and some of the 90's (wasn't really cool people just thought it was). The cool thing to do is the right thing. There are people that care about you. If you were to get into and accident and died because you were not wearing a seatbelt, how would they feel?

DO the right thing...

Well said,I can't understand people still having an arguement about why not to wear a seatbelt.

Exactly, a button to stop it would be fine. Once it goes off, fine, you've reminded me, going off for the next five minutes isn't going to make me put it on. The chime does not know what I'm doing, I could be at a car wash, I could be in a mall parking lot, going from one lot to another, anything. These are times I jump in he car and take off, the chime comes on and I buckle up, good job chime! But other times, give me the reminder and let me turn you off, in essence, saying I heard you, thanks.

Have the statistics have changed OR maybe they don't apply to specific individuals, http://answers.yahoo...31182513AAVg5td
"Where do most accidents occur? ... The correct answer is within 1 or 2 miles from your home. The other answer within 5 miles from your home may also be correct. These figures are based on insurance company statistics gathered from accident reports and customer claims."
I'd prefer to protect myself from the "other" drivers.

And, as an aside, if I'm not mistaken, (lawyers chime in here) many states' insurance regulations severely constrain the right to sue for personal injury if the claimant was not wearing a seat-belt.
