thank you for that link. You wouldnt happen to know if the voice activation commands are suppose to work for my year? I follow the steps in the manual to use it, but nothing happens, so i'm wondering if that might be related to the phone problem.

I don't recall to be honest. I seem to remember that Navigation was needed for Voice Command in early cars but my recollection may be wrong! And from the looks of the small iDrive screen in your photo, you don't have Nav. It would help to put as much info on your as you know down in the signature section, it will help folks answer date, model and location specific questions.

1 more question....unfortunately the more I drive the more problems I find. When I put my key in the ignition the iDrive says "key/remote control!" I did some searching and it looks like the battery in the key is going bad? Do I have to go to the dealer for that or can I pick one up at the store? I looked in the manual and it didnt say anything about replacing the battery in the key. help?

If you have comfort access, you can have the dealer change the battery, it's covered by warranty. If you don't have CA, it's built-in and not replaceable (at least by the owner). Not sure what the procedure is then.
