Is this the trick?

---------------
Procedure:
1) Turn Key to Second Position.
2) Put you foot all the way down on the accelerator for 30-40 seconds.
3) Step on the brake and start the engine.

E60freak, what do you mean by gearbox reset and added 100 km?

I had about the same consuption as you have on my 2004 530i (maybe more like 520-530) but when I did the Gearbox reset I added almost 100 km on the tank. HUGE difference.

Note: I drive it pretty easy in the week and let myself loose in the weekend so I would describe my driving style as normal 85% of the time and hard 15%.

I get around the same during normal city driving - between 280 and 320 miles per tank. That goes up to almost 400 on my runs to San Diego (highway driving).

Yes and you don't feel anything until you start driving

Well I bought my car pre-owned and I guess the person who drove it before me had a very different style then mine so the gears reacted weird on me. My guess is that he had a very heavy foot and the car adapted to frequently lowering gears to keep up with the amount of gas (in a short period of time) given to the car.

My "Normal" driving style is more of a smooth acceleration and the car reacted weid (as it was keeping the gears low but I was not giving much gas). This is what it was IMO.

give it a try, worst that could happen is nothing!

So I see that is normal..... I thought I burned too much gas and this forum proves I am wrong and my car is fine then! Thanks, guys!

by the way I drive with D mode about 90% and 10% with DS/M.

In my case (I drive about 70% city and 30% Highway).
When I fill the gas (91 octane), the cluster shows me I have 690 km or 429 miles from gas to gas. I have it for about 9-10 days.

When the tank is nearly empty (less of 10 km or 6 miles), the total of km/miles calculated (I always reset the odometer after the gas is full) is about 450-490 km or 298-310 miles...

Is this normal for 545i? or I burn too much gas?

545i drivers.... How many km or miles per tank have you?
That seems about right. My ratio is more like 85/15 or 90/10 and I get about 330 when it says I have 60 miles to go.

I see you have the same screwed up computer mileage calculation. When I fill it up, it says I have 500+ miles to empty.

The computer calculation is worthless.

Yea I don't know what the computer bases itself on when it does the calculation, it's surely not the average litres/100k that you accumulated so far in the in on-board computer.

I do same ratio of highway/city and achieve roughly the same kms on a tank as you.

Oh yea? Well I have a 530i and get about 320-350 miles per tank on 93 octane Shell gas. WTF?

I have the same "Range" with fill up and actual mileage....the computer is running a simple program that takes actual speeds recently driven, loads, etc. and calculates your range from this. If you just got off the freeway and then filled up, the range would be some astronomical number as compared to filling up just after driving in stop and go traffic around town. It really is a VERY simple formula, and while it IS accurate, it's only accurate for that moment in time and changes instantly based upon new speed data etc. Hey at least we get to see this play out from the comfort of our E60's!! After all we could be watching this play out from the drivers seat of something MUCH less enjoyable....SUV's etc!!
