I left work and the fuel light came on telling me that I had 57 miles to go and about 1/8 tank of gas remaining. So, I stopped at the grocery store (@7 miles from work) and when I got back in the fuel gauge showed ZERO and the miles remaining was ---:--- totally blank. Got kind of scared... Fortunately, there's a 7-11 Citgo station next to the store. I put in 10 gallons and all was well. I did notice however that the fuel gauge was reading higher than normal for just 10 gallons... perhaps the fuel level detector is going bad, or the extreme heat we've had here in FL the last week is causing something....

Reminds me of my old E36 M3, after most fillups, I'd have to pull a fuse for about 30 seconds before the gauge would register that I had filled up with gas!!

FP,

Now that really sounds like a real strange issue...
