Since there were a couple of discussion about oil burning lately. I'm starting a poll. I'm a firm believer of Motoman's break-in style: http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm I broke-in all my cars and my bike this way and I hever had any issues with oil burning. In fact I still have my 99 Audi A4 1.8T with over 100,000 miles with 90,000 of those are with a larger (K04) turbo and the engine pushing 50% more power than stock - oil consumption? ZERO.

All the poll questions assume that at least regular maintenance is followed when it comes to oil changes. If you change oil less often than the maintenance interval, don't take the poll.

2004 E60 530i sport, manual, 64,000 miles, BMW 5W-30, no noticeable oil loss. Fill with 7 US qt at each oil change every 7,500 - 8,000 miles. Blackstone Lab analysis shows some minor engine wear, recommends every 6,000 miles instead. May try Mobil1 0W-40 next time for comparison against BMW 5W-30.

BMWs are always been a hit or miss!!
It seems like regardless of how you break in the engine, some consumes oil and some don't.
Just like the reliability, some owners get bulletproof while some cars break down everyday.
But what do I know....
