Anything over 91 is wasted in the US. I use 93 a lot, too, because I don't always want to blend to save a dollar.

Iceman is correct -- there is no benefit to buying the higher octane rated gas for the e60 in the US as BMW tunes the engines for the "lowest common denominator"/minimum octane rating available across the entire US (which I believe is 91).

In the USA it is almost impossible to find 91 octane gas.

Standard octanes found in the USA are: 87, 89, 93

Some stations have other kinds.... but they are few and far between. If you take a road trip, you will have to settle for 93, because you won't find 91 anywhere.... or run out of gas trying.

Besides.... gas in the USA is so freaking cheap compared to other parts of the world, I can't believe anyone with a BMW would waste the effort trying to find 91 octane.... or try to mix gas to save a few pennies.

Try filling your tank with petrol in the UK.... LMAO. Talk about expensive.

You must be living in a cave somewhere in FL.

Please travel to CA, the most populous state in the US and you will find 91 octane plentiful, but no 93 octane. Also, there are more cars and road miles driven in CA than any other state, so you can hardly define a "standard" in the US without consideration of CA.

I allways fill up with the 100 octane (US 94) and don't care about a couple cents more. Even if it doesn't do anything good to the engine, it definately doesn't harm it.
And I am talking about gas prices of almost 5 USD per Gallon guys...

The E60 has a 70 Liter tank. Gas price is pretty cheap currently at 1.22 Euro/Liter...
70x1.22=85.40Euro for the full tank (109.06 USD with todays exchange rate).
Gas prices were higher a couple months ago, 1.32.........

If I could blend to give 93-95 octane, I would spend a bit more...well at least once in awhile.

In Hong Kong with the gas prices at about US$1.6 per LITER (liter not gallon) where I live, anything but the cheapest available is just stupid.....

The reason it's so expensive is that the gov. charges a ridiculous tax (around 105%) on fuel in an attempt to force people to take public transportation.

Current Oil Price

Government Excise Duty HK$ / Litre
Pump Price

(Ex. Duty) HK$ / Litre

Shell Pura Diesel 1.11 5.94
Shell Super Unleaded 6.06 5.78
Shell V Power Unleaded 6.06 6.56

Hong Kong current gas prices

You have to see to believe!!!!
