BMW 2008 E61 Business Nav
started my car at work at lunch time today and got nothing on the idrive screen i pressed the on button
for the radio and got radio 1 on and the screen came to life and slowly changed to the correct
page for radio, but when turning the idrive knob nothing changes on the screen or the radio station
does not change either. when switching the engine of the screen goes blank but the sound continues to
be heard. Does anyone know a reset procedure for the business nav system and idrive

many thanks Jonni M sport

Yes, the reset procedure is to press the volume knob, and BOTH cd and DVD drive eject buttons at the same time.

I have a similar boot failure problem about every 30 or 40 starts. It resets itself after 15 minutes or so, and if I don't want to wait, I just do the finger gymnastics thing that pjinca described (Ctrl-Alt-Delete equivalent). I've never tried to get it diagnosed, because that could be very expensive, and the cost of living with the problem is quite low.
