I've had my 550 since August '07 and still no plates (front or back). I was pulled over by LAPD Van Nuys in January '08 and was cited for no plates. I simply paid the $144 and no points. I was pulled over this morning by CHP and cited for speeding. He asked about my plates and I told him that I had front end work done and still needed the dealer to install the bracket. No problem (except the speeding ticket). I drove my '04 530 for almost 4 years with no front plate and no ticket. I kept the temp sticker in the front windshield. When I bought my car, I think I remember signing a dealer disclosure form stating that the dealer supplied a front license plate bracket for my car upon delivery. Probably time to put the rear plate on...

Hi Cosmosblau,

Noticed you're a fellow Palisadian. Not sure what part of town you're from but I'm in the highlands with a Silver Grey 05 545i.

Regarding the front plates, as someone else mentioned, if you ever go to LAX, they will stop you there if they see you without plates. Usually it will happen at the most inconvenient time like rushing to drop someone off for a flight or picking someone up.

In my opinion it's not worth the stress and worry of having to always watch out for Police. Even if the fine is small, who has time to go to a sheriff or Police station to get the fix-it ticket cleared up. I would put the plate on and have my mind at ease. Why give an officer an extra reason to pull you over. One night you may have 2 glasses of wine where although you may be sober you could still technically be over the limit (depending on body weight, etc.). Why risk all this just for a minor cosmetic improvement?
