Sometimes there is confirmation it's more about generating revenue and less about promoting and ensuring public safety.

Example, There is a local department officer in the neighborhood. Nice friendly guy ... his wife drives a large SUV with dark tinted windows (including driver side) and smoked covers that completely obscured both front and rear license plates.

I joked with him a while back about who did his tinting and where did he buy the license plate covers - I had to remind him I was only half-joking and that he set a poor example for the department.

Do as I say ... not as I do

I have toyed with the idea of modifying Idaho law to get an exemption for having to mount a front license plate, but have not gotten around to it. I have not ran a front plate on any of my rides since the second Reagan adminsistration, never been stopped. One thing that has not been mentioned here, is that front plate makes and ideal reflector for law enforcement's laser zappers. Just a thought.

You confirm it ... "Sometimes there is confirmation it's more about generating revenue and less about promoting and ensuring public safety."

I thought I recognized you hanging around Vegas with the old gang

Have you guys seen my recent thread regarding this? It's a pretty sweet solution to mounting the front license plate to the front bumer (M-Tech or Stock).

I just got back from Atlantic City a few hours ago and drove by a few state troopers with the plate off, on the GSP. If my luck keeps up, I may never put my plate back on. However, I like having the option should I need to have it on there. Better safe, than sorry.

Dealer drilled holes in my stock bumper, so I ran my front plate from the get-go. But literally a couple days after I installed my M-Tech front bumper... I got a fix it ticket off Hollywood Blvd. on a Friday evening, not to mention they ticketed me for my very light (54% to be exact) tints. And that's all they pulled me over for. The ironic part was that I was heading to Home Depot that night to buy supplies to mount the plate.

If you have aftermarket wheels and are lowered, I wouldn't risk the chance. Motor/traffic officers target fixed up cars out in Cali. Everyone who hasn't been pulled over yet, just consider yourselves lucky!

Here's how I mounted my plate for those of you that don't want to drill holes into the front of your M-Tech bumpers.

so i got my plates about 4 weeks ago. I am not sure wheather or not to put them on, because if I throw the rear plate on I would have to take the sticker off the window and put the front one on...but I'm on the fence about drilling the front bumper to mount the plate. How long did you guys wait to put on your plates? Should I mount the front one if and when I do put the plates on? My friends say don't put the plates on ever and wave to the red light/traffic cameras (j/k about that last part, running red lights is wrong and irresponsible..i know )

Dont waste your time mounting a front plate, Ive been driving sport cars for the past 20 years both in Texas and now Colorado and I have only been given a ticket once in all that time. Why mess up that great looking front end with plate that looks out of place. Oh and by the way, even if you did get a ticket, it would be a non-moving violation, so it wont mess up your driving record. So as long as you dont have anything to hide, then who cares, enjoy it without the plate.

Believe me Im waiting on my M-Technic front bumper and you arent going to find a front plate on my new ride!

Knight: Sorry to hear about your fix-it ticket. You make a very interesting observation regarding rims and lowering (both legal mods). Maybe the reason I've received almost no 'no front plate' tickets over the last 30 years is that I seldom lower my cars or fit them 19" or 20" rims...not that there's anything wrong with doing that!

I guess what I'm saying is maybe you (and fellow modified 5-series drivers) are the victim of a form of police profiling...i.e. not doing anything wrong, but having the appearance of being a questionable character.

Be nice if law enforcement didn't do that, and focused primarily on busting drunk drivers, redlight / stop sign runners, and speeders (with a break for to those of us who, if it's safe, often drive 10-20mph over the posted limit. )

I think it would be easier for an officer to spot and already know a fix-it tix is coming when the car is already mod'd e60...they must know they are gonna find something to cite you on...I plan on leaving my car stock since it's a lease, and i got to order it the way I wanted it...(i'm sure this could be a thread on it's own: leasing and mod'ing or not)
