so i got my plates about 4 weeks ago. I am not sure wheather or not to put them on, because if I throw the rear plate on I would have to take the sticker off the window and put the front one on...but I'm on the fence about drilling the front bumper to mount the plate. How long did you guys wait to put on your plates? Should I mount the front one if and when I do put the plates on? My friends say don't put the plates on ever and wave to the red light/traffic cameras (j/k about that last part, running red lights is wrong and irresponsible..i know )

Ya just wait till your next ticket and the cop sees that you HAVE plates issued to you yet you're not using them. Explain that one.

As for front plates... if you dont want to drill use double sided tape.

how reliable is the double sided tape? last thing I want is for the plate to come off while I am on the road and cause some damage to another car or accident....

Don't do it, looks much better without. My buddy is LAPD and he says that they will usually leave everybody alone without plates...unless you look like a gangster and they need the probable cause. I've crossed paths with many traffic cops and they don't seem to care. Initially, I was worried though.
My 2 cents.

Here's the crazy thing - I've been without a front plate for over a year now. Some of the Ventura Blvd. motorcycle cops are notorious sticklers for adherence to the vehicle code. Yet, with my temporary sticker still in the front, I have yet to be bothered. I've passed cops, been passed, snuggled up near the bumper of a few cruisers, etc - no problema. I've even been pulled over for chirping the tires, but no mention of the front plate. Knock on wood, but I think they are a bit sympathetic to cars made sans provisions for the front plate, or the dealer sticker in the window is cause for a break.

I didn't want to drill and mount the factory plate bracket so I used 3M double-sided Automotive tape to mount my tag and frame. Prep the surface with an alcohol swab; I used tape on all 4 edges and it seems very well stuck.

Buy the same stuff manufacturers use to mount moldings and name / model insignias at an auto parts store - not the household double-sided tape - that isn't intended to withstand the temperature swings or inclement weather.

Keep that beautiful 5-series front bumper clean and aerodynamic! Put the rear plates on and leave the front plates off, but carry the front plate (mounted to holder) in your trunk, for the possibility of talking your way out of a 'fix-it' ticket. [Slurred voice] "Hey! What seems to be the officer, problem?! Look! This damned front plate keeps falling off! Can you hold my beer? I think I'm gonna puke."

I've done that (plates in the trunk, never drunk driving, seriously) for the last 30 years of driving in Southern California (which requires a front plate), and the only 2 fix-it tickets (i.e. no points on DMW record) I've received were 1) parked in Beverly Hills (BH cops live to ticket parked vehicles), and 2) parked at LAX airport (LAX cops also live to ticket parked vehicles).

depends... what kind are you using? industrial strength... if so pretty reliable. change them out once in a while. Dont expect it to be lifetime... if you're lazy then use the screws... I've been running with velcro-ed on license plate for 2 years now. HAHAHA but I'm careful. I maintain my plate... i re-do it every month or so to make sure it stays on. I want my plate! I cant lose it.

I have my own way of doing it.

See post #37 and 38.

P.S. I've actually increased the size of the tiny small velcro that i use to use... now its larger

Or take a look at this... I've still been wondering if it works for the E60... not that i want it... but throwing out the idea for others...
