RULE#1, NOBODY DRIVES MY CAR BUT ME!
I won't let my wife drive my car. But then, she won't let me drive her '06 330i either. Fair enough.

I am shocked to see that all of you guys don't let your friends drive your cars . Me and my friends do that all the time. Actually any new car is subject to a test drive no matter how its owner feels. It is the friendship rights .

ro11dice,
There is nothing wrong in letting a friend drive your car. One day he might be on the passenger side, and you might get a heart attack while driving. You will never make it then unless your friend drives you to the hospital and you will be grateful that he drove for you.

And don't let your friend get a feeling that you're angry at him, or that he did something terrible to you. I am sure that he did not mean to destroy your car, he just mis-judged the turn and had an accident. Reckless? Yes. But is it worth losing a friend? Definitely not.

The car will be repaired and will be just fine. It will just cost you (or his insurance) money. Friendship is much more than just money. Money comes and goes, while true friendship lasts forever.

I'm always upset when my friends don't drive my car as hard as I do. They always drive it like a granny and I think, "what the hell are you even driving this thing for?"

I would be pissed!!!!
Anyway, sorry to hear the sad story. Hope it will be back to new when it is all fixed.
Your friend shoul pay your deductible, and get you some good bottles of wine to make up for this.
Had some time to cool down. Overall, just glad that no one was hurt. Yes, the deductible is his. We're going through his insurance. Funny you should mention the wine, he is big into wine...and no, not at the time of driving....

Yeah, looking back at the pix are invoking some troubling thoughts

I second that....

I view my car much like I do my underwear. MINE and mine alone. Don't ask to borrow them.

I just know too well that even an innocent, ill fated, act of god mistake that harms my beloved car would cause a grave divide in a friendship - - even if it was not their fault, it would still eat at me. Its immature, unrealistic and sad to be so in love with an inanimate object. But......its how I feel.

In the end, sadly, its just best to be immature, yet realistic, and avoid any such problems.

- Pete
