Does anyone know if this issue has been resolved in the newer turbo models? I just bought a 2009 535 new (it was never sold before), but the dealer said the issues only happened on the 2007 and 2008 models. I believe the extended HPFP warranty does not apply to the 2009 and 2010 535's.

Can anyone confirm this?

As said they are on version 7 of the part at least... 7 versions in less than 4-5 years of road use of this motor.

Any one want to debate why the N55 is replacing the N54 so quickly across the entire BMW line up?

Is there a way to know which version our car has? Through iDrive or VIN or under the hood?

Which version of What... DMS software, HPFP, turbo waste gate, Injectors?
got to be more specific...
From a Normal user stand point no.
If you have a BMW diagnostic reader you can tell the software version
HPFP, you would have to look at car build date, if the pump has been replaced... etc so no sure way of knowing other than to have the actual part number of the HPFP.

Update:

So after my calls to BMW, and before the Service Manager for the dealership came back, I got a call from my Service Advisor and was told that he "found" a way for the software update to be warranted under the Emissions Warranty.

After the software update and the replacement of the internal fuel control unit, they ended up taking it for the final drive and it threw more codes. And what did they find???

HPFP Failure.....

So they replaced it with the new 943 part number.

Things ended up working out after all.

...PLUS, I got to drive a 2010 335i for a day. And I now know I made a great choice, as the ride is nothing like my 5er!
