Firewall heater hoses

BMW's small hoses are pretty much lifetime compared with E28 vintage - made with EPDM. The big ones, not so much but usually those fail at the coupler rather than the hose. There's a nasty one with a plastic tube that runs across the top of the radiator on some models and the plastic section turns into peanut brittle. Killers on E60 cooling system are the expansion tank and the mickey-mouse shaped fitting on the front of the head.

The mickey mouse hose is the rubber hose under the oil cooler.
It comes out of the block and twists down to the electric thermostat (next to the water pump).

Earlier we were talking about replacing the heater core hoses.
Take a peek at how this guy in the video below pulled off the heater hoses from the heater core.
He did it inside the engine bay at the firewall. He removed the wipers and front wind shield coverings.
He didn't do it from inside the cabin under the dash.
SeanJordon could you have also used this method? See video about at the 2 minute mark.

If I ever need to do anything to my HVAC, I'll be changing the fan and both cores. Yuck.

Heater hoses 3 to firewall
I know this is an old thread I've done it and it's not that bad but, it can be done. If this is any relevance to anyone I'll go further with what is involved.

On our cars, part #10 shown above is a fat rubber thing and it pries off. I changed hoses on one car because I was chasing a poor flow issue. Since these hoses are away from the engine I would not have otherwise. The 12-year old ones were still solid and flexible.
