Hi,

I'm really getting fed up with this car (2005 523)! Car only has 19000 miles on the clock and the latest problem (after the high battery discharge message which has not reappeared) is that when driving for an hour or so the radio and cd intermittently cut out for a few seconds. At the same time the i-drive screen freezes and the controller knob and steering buttons are inoperative. It seems that something is heating up and causing a short or could it be a faulty battery or does that not have anything to do with the symptoms? I have checked fuses, battery window is green and I have also tried disconecting the battery for 30 minutes but to no avail. I been searching and read nearly all the SIBs but nothing seems to exacty match this. Please help as I really like the e60, dealers here muck you about and these little problems really take the joy of ownership away.

Thanks

I had similar issue with the radio. What mechanic did is he disconnected TCU from the MOST bus and put a loopback on the cable. But of course when I decided to refrofit for AUX connector dealer had to reconnect back TCU and programming did not work. They replaced TCU, successfully programmed the car and after that everything is good again with TCU connected. Had dealer do a detailed test of TCU.

Hi,
in my case a simple change of the CCC was sucessful. The Dealer said, the Software Version 25 causes the broke up of the CCC - check your SW.

Good luck!

Thanks guys for the input. Seems that a trip to the dealer is inevitable.

PETERG,

I had the same problem as you with the battery error coming up on the Idrive. I took the car in for service last week and it turned out that the problem was with the battery cable. The negative battery cable was faulty and they had to replace it. I am pretty sure this might be the same problem with your car....keep us informed.

Everyone has pretty much summed it up. This is an issue with your CCC. Mine has been replaced twice in my '04 545i. Most recently was back in March of this year. The good news is that the new unit has a new part number which we think means they made some bug fixes. My dealer noted that 18 other dealers in the US had the same part on order. You are not alone :-)

My CCC has functioned flawlessly ever since!! Woohoo.

Thanks again for the responses. Excuse my lack of knowledge but as I don't have navigation so would that the M-ask and not the CCC? And would it be the whole unit or a module as the probable cost here is beginning to freak me out! Called the dealer today and they can't book me in till September believe it or not!

M-ASK and CCC are simply two different computers running the iDrive etc. For cars equipped with NAV, you got the CCC computer. Non-Nav cars got the less advanced M-ASK computer...

I also keep seeing a HIGH BATTERY DISCHARGE message. My car is an 06 with 35k miles and they do not know what it is. Im going to bring it back to the dealer as well. They charged the battery and what not but I will tell thema bout the cable thing. Good Luck tho.
