My Ride: See sig :)
Doesnt matter if the car is cold or hot, the fan speed will not pass the 1/2 mark
You think a bad battery can be a culprit? Wouldnt their be other issues if that was the case?

If the system senses that the air is not hot enough, it will not increase fan speed. (Though I would have thought it would in manual mode).
Anyway, probably worth trying it with the aircon off...

Retired: 2002 325I, Titanium silver on black leather. Premium package. Absolutely stock and proud of it.
You could have a bad resistor. I had a similar case where i changed the resistor on an E36 and the thing would work fine for a day or two and then it would blow the resistor again. Ultimately, it turned out to be a bad blower motor. G/L

Broken AC sensor, the resistor.
It is sooooo common on all E6x's.
I have read about more than 25 cases and I've had the same problem
in my '01 E39 and twice in my '05 E60.
On my '05 E60 both the resistor and the fan motor was changed, twice, as I said.
When the sensor brakes the AC goes on some kind of "preset level" on auto.
Therefore most people don't ever realize its broken, until one needs to do some
kind of special settings.

So how hard is it to replace that sensor? Dealer vist?

However, try the new battery at first.
If you're wondering did it help me, I have to say that I haven't done anything to this issue yet...

In the E60/61 it is a bitch (about 3 - 5 hours of work), because it's behind the dash...
But don't pay for the work nor the part, it is a such a common problem!
