I still think if one is going to drive a BMW, they SHOULD have a warranty as SO MANY things are ridiculously expensive to repair or replace! A note here though, if you do decide to get an aftermarket warranty, get it BEFORE your current warranty expires or the cost of the warranty goes up rapidly! Also i should mention that I have a friend who can get you a Mercury Insurance warranty that costs LESS than the BMW equivalent, covers MORE and can even be a deductible free warranty if you so desire! PM me if you are interested!

Um... wrong. Warranties require participants to contribute the average of the projected cost of a large group of users (and something extra for plan management cost and profit, and something less because of supply economies the insurer can achieve).

A warranty is a bargain if your actual cost is likely to be higher than the average, and not such a bargain if your actual cost is likely to be lower. That's the decision point.

Members of this blog, most of whom are interested in extracting maximum performance from their vehicles, put above-average stress on those vehicles and are likely to experience higher than average mechanical failure rates. That means warranties make sense for most 5Series Forum folk, even those who put on low miles if they do so with great enthusiasm.
