Looking at a 550i at a non BMW Dealer. Car approaching 50k miles so was thinking about getting a warranty. How many buy them from car dealers and do you negotiate the warranty price? I would think so but then I have never bought a warranty on a car. Is buying a BMW warranty from a BMW dealer an option and if so, a better option. tks

It depends on what coverage you're looking for and how much you're willing to spend.
Also consider how long you plan to keep the car and how much miles driven annually.

They are those who prefer to go with BMW for the piece of mind knowing OEM parts will be used for warranty work. Also, not having worry if your claim will be denied as most third party warranty companies tend to do. However, BMW can be a real PITA as they like to tell customers that they can't replicate their complaint. This is an excuse for BMW'S lack of accountability when dealing with on going defects. They are many third party warranty options if that's the route you choose; you just have to do your research to weed out the crap ones. Make sure really understand what is covered and what is not covered in your research.

I have a friend at Mercury Insurance and he sells aftermarket warranties that are superior to the BMW product and less expensive too! PM me if you are interested!
