this morning when i was about to set off for London from Manchester which is about 230miles i found out there was a message in the i drive saying there is an excessive amount of oil in the engine. as i was already late i thought when i get there i ll ask you guys what that is and how can be out of no where there is too much oil in the engine. so advise me is it a matter of real concern, should i take the car to a dealer straight away or can i wait till i get back to Manchester plus its sunday tommoro. so advise me how to deal with this issue

p.s. i had no trouble while driving and didnt get any messages.

Well, more information would help, for example, have you recently topped-up or had an oil change?.If the answer is yes to either, then it is likely that it is over-filled,which can be a problem which needs attention.

I would suspect a sensor problem if you have not added oil since the last time you had an oil change service. Just to be sure, avoid high speed operation until the condition is investigated by a dealer or qualified indy BMW mechanic.

I agree that this sounds like a sensor gone bad and please don't wait another 11,000 miles to change your oil. Oil should be changed every 7,500 miles at most. I now change my oil at 5,000 miles after reading some horror stories about sludge build=up in BMW engines. Please keep us posted. G/L

If it was my car i would check the level at the dipstick preferably before you have started the car when its cold, if you have been a run then let it sit for a while to allow the oil to drain to the sump (20minutes or so).

The others are correct, if you have to drive it then i would drive carefully till i can have it checked by a garage or the dealer.

Since it is still under warranty, get a dealer to look at the problem.

i extreme possibility is having coolant in the oil due to a gasket leak or crack somewhere. or if its a diesel, a stuck injector could be dumping diesel in the motor.
