Not sure what this means, but apparently it's a big job that takes a lot of time. Can anyone explain what it means, and is it cause for concern? Kinda worried.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Funny you should mention that. More like a HUGE job. I saw a wiring harness replacement being done at my dealership the other day. The ENTIRE interior of the car was removed. Every single thing. The tech said that there was 72 hours of labor so far and he wan't ready to put it all back together yet. He said that the only time it normally happens is in front end collissions which was the case with this car. What happened with yours??

Wow, not good.
Nothing happened to my car. It's wonderful.
I am now concerned. But if I have issues after, I guess I have recourse?
HELP!

I went in because I got a check engine light, and a warning about increased emisions.
They said this wiring harness was also part of an open SIB.
I'm kinda freaked now.
This might be all I need to switch to the 911.
My wife's 550 comes in next week.

This happened to me a few years ago on my 540i. I was in a front end collision and the car was fixed and returned to me. Within a week the car had problems and they discovered that I had a wiring harness problem. It took close to a month to receive the part and have it installed. The wiring harness in a BMW is one piece and weighs over a 100 lbs. As mentioned above, the entire interior needs to be removed and every electrical component needs to be reconnected and tested. My story gets worse. After a week of driving the car I began to experience the same problems and once again it was due to a damaged wiring harness. It seems that I had a cracked engine mount that was not replaced after my collision and as a result when the engine jerked on starting it pulled at the harness. Four more weeks in the shop to replace the wiring harness (again) and the engine mount. I drove the car for three years after that and not a single probelm.
Make sure that they not only replace the wiring harness but also find the cause of the problem and fix that as well. Good luck.

It sounds like you mean a new engine wiring harness, which is a different thing from the entire wiring loom that others are talking about. The engine harness is just the wires and sensors on the engine, not the whole car. Doesnt take that long to do.

OK, so got my car back today- it was the engine wiring harness, as I said intitially. Not a big deal, they only have to remove the carbon filter, engine cover, and air filter box. They simply remove one part and put in a new one. No removal of the entire interior, etc.
PLUS: they gave me the new CIP 21. upgrade- very nice upgrade over 20.01. Car is zippy and really accelerates like a monster with higher gear shifts, and the car stays at a higher gear longer while cruising before dropping down for fuel efficiency. Steering is tighter with my active steering, too.

In the tech comments it states to monitor and if it happens again it may need the engine wiring harness replaced based upon SIB 12-15-05.
Cattman's is the only other instance I've heard of, but yet there is an SIB out there.
I could not find the referenced SIB anywhere. If anyone has seen it I'd be interesting to see it.
