Looking for a little help/advice...after I start my car and drive it for about 5-10 minutes, a squeal sound comes from under the hood only when the car is at idle (at a stop light, etc). As soon as I press on the gas, the sound is gone. I have noticed that the performance is slightly off in comparison to when this problem didn't exist. I took it to the independent shop I normally go to, they changed a couple pulleys and the serpentine belt since that's where they thought the sound was coming from but the same squeal sound still comes up so they put all the original parts back on since they were working normally. I was advised to take it to the dealership for a further diagnostic thinking it might be coming from the transmission, so I'm about to make an appointment...not sure what to expect....has anyone else had this issue? Thanks

2005 545i with 107K miles.

don't think transmission would be making squealing noises at idling...if your car has 107K miles, then it's possible that the timing chain needs to be re-tightened since when you press on the gas, the noise is gone. But then the shop would have figured this out so may be it's something else.

with that many miles, you should have kept the new belt and pullies anyways.

was the alternator checked? could be worn bearings inside.

usually transmissions dont squeel.

i was hoping they left the new pullies and belt on, not sure why they took it all off. i believe they just wanted to get my car out of the shop since they couldn't figure it out. i dont think they even checked the alternator but thanks for the intel. i have never changed the alternator, but did replace the battery last year. they did some other "smoke" air intake test of some kind to make sure there was no leak, and there was not.

both crank case vent values were torn...after getting it replaced, the sound is gone. I guess the sound was funneling up to the engine area, but it was louder from the bottom of the car.
