Bimmer Fan's, it comes to a day when your baby is leaking from the worst leak of engine and that is the sump/oil pan leak. Is this DIY'able without having to lift the engine? In order words, can the sump/oil pan gasket can be changed/replaced without having to lift ore remove the engine?

Engine has to be lifted and/or the subframe support needs to be removed. Others have replaced the gasket without removing the subframe or lifting the engine; but it's very very tight.

I assume you are talking about M54. I would suggest not to cut the gasket and so forth. Life the subframe and do it correct. Its a european car, thay all leak oil. ALL.
