I have a 04 545i manual and notice a rattle coming from the front left of the engine while sitting in the car. It's most noticeable when at low rpms letting out the clutch. I took it to a bmw dealership and they could not find anything wrong but the noise is making me nervous. I don't want to continue driving it if it's gonna make it worse. I just wanted 2 know if this is just a common thing with this make model and year. Thanks.

Similar problem here, also dealer thinks everything is ok. From time to time I hear rattle and feel a little vibration and it occurs only when idle or at very low speeds.

Hi there, I had the same problem in my 2004 545, turned out to be the air conditioning compressor. Thank God the car is still under warranty...1300.00 otherwise
Hope this helps!

My co-workers E92 328i has a clicking issue also in his engine bay turns out to be a valve problem, although it never happens at the dealership when he tries to get it checked. Nothing too big.

I'm not saying that you have a valve click issue, thats just a possible problem. Although some E60s have been knows to have that issue also.
